ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Alessa Kelly writes romantic suspense and contemporary romance novels. Readers can expect tales of daring-do with a healthy dose of steam, or as she likes to call it, romance with a touch of peril.Having caught a travel bug when she was eighteen, Alessa has traveled to all seven continents. Her thrill for finding new perspectives has seen her dogsledding to the Arctic, tracking wolves in Yellowstone, and camping in Antarctica. She enjoys the simple things in life, like taking long walks, daydreaming, and bingeing on Nordic noir with cheesy popcorn in hand. She is also a lover of wildlife photography, and will die without a cup of strong, black tea.

Tell us a little bit about yourself, your hobbies and interests.

I've been pretty nomadic all my life, but I live in Melbourne now. A tarot reader said I would be moving again soon, maybe overseas. It's unlikely, but who knows! I love travelling and I can't live without tea. I'm also wild about wildlife, and I have an interest in watching cricket - the sport, not the creature.

When and why did you start writing books?

My mom was a kindergarten teacher and she wrote cute poems and passages as a hobby. I guess it started then. But the real nudge came from my best friend in high school. We shared similar boys issues at the time and we decided to write about them.

What made you decide to tackle writing as a career?

I'm still not sure if it will be my main career right now. I think it will take time. By trade, I'm an instructional designer and it's a great job. So I will decide if writing will be my full-time career once I can't turn up to my other work anymore.

Which one of your books or characters is your favourite?

Joseph 'Scipio' Russo. He's my hero.

Which one of your books was the hardest to write and stretched you the most as a writer?

So far, Don't Tear Us Apart. There are painful and distressing scenes that are close to home. I ended up having to rewrite those scenes so many times because early feedback told me they were too intense, that the characters were affected in a negative way (unintentionally of course!) .

Who is your favourite author and book?

Matthew Reilly's Ice Station

What book are you reading right now?

Bloody Heart by Sophie Lark, and Artful Lies by Jodi Ellen Malpas

Where do you get your inspiration for your books?

Everywhere, but mostly from people I met on my travels. It's fascinating to think that strangers tend to open up (or make up plausible, interesting stories), perhaps knowing that we might not see each other again. Ha ha!

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

I love wildlife photography. It has taken me places, as north as the Arctic and as south as Antarctica. Also, having naps. I might sound lazy, but naps are the best thing to re-energise yourself!

Do you have any new books in the works?

Yes, I'm writing a new standalone kidnapping romance series, which has been fun. The stories still have a degree of darkness like my previous books, but they're more uplifting.
