One of the first steps in publishing a book is finding an ASIN number. Amazon uses what are known as an Amazon Standard Identification Number (ASIN) to identify your work uniquely. Your ASIN number is used to create your book cover, assign the correct ISBN number, and more. Once you find the perfect ASIN number for your work, it’s time to get started on your self-publishing journey. But what is an ASIN and how do you find a good one? This blog will help answer these questions.
What is ASIN
ASIN stands for Amazon Standard Identification Number. It’s a 15-character number that identifies all of your work with each book you publish, from the get-go. In fact, ASIN is so important, that Amazon uses it as the primary identifier for your books and digital media. Your ASIN number is used to create all of your book covers, assign the correct ISBN number, and more. Furthermore, every ASIN is exclusive to each seller account. So if you have an ISBN from one publishing company, it will not work on Amazon.
Why do I need an ASIN? You need an ASIN for two reasons: to get the correct ISBN and to publish your book. You cannot create a cover or get your book listed on Amazon without an ASIN. If you do not have an assigned number, it may be difficult for potential customers to find your digital products. Furthermore, each ASIN is exclusive to your seller account. So, if you have an ISBN from one publishing company, it will not work on Amazon. It’s best to start off with a clean slate and make sure you have the correct ISBN for each new book you publish.
Define Kindle
The term Kindle has become synonymous with all things related to self-publishing. While the first product was an actual e-reader, Amazon now sells many e-readers and tablets that can read Kindle books. There are apps available for virtually every type of device and operating system as well. So if you are new to the world of self publishing, it’s best to understand the terminology so you know what people are talking about.
Kindle devices have developed a lot over time. Once Amazon was known for selling devices, many other companies now sell similar products. This makes it harder to distinguish between Kindle devices. Though Amazon is still the most popular brand of e-reader, there are now many other companies that sell their own version of the device.
What is an ASIN Number
Amazon’s ASIN number is a 15-character number that identifies each book you publish. It’s used to create your book title, assign the correct ISBN number, and more. Amazon uses the same ASIN number to identify every work in the world of digital media. This means customers will always have a resource to find your products on Amazon. An ASIN number does not physically exist in the e-reader or Amazon, but is instead stored in a database.
The ASIN number is unique to each book you publish on Amazon. If you haven’t already purchased an ISBN from the company, it’s best to start fresh and own your number. You can use a tool to find your ASIN number for free on your account’s dashboard.
The ASIN number is made up of three sections: the prefix, which identifies where the book was created; the ID, which identifies the organization or publisher; and the title section, which identifies your work title. The prefix is used to identify where Amazon took your work. If you have a work that was published outside of Amazon, you will need to make sure that it is accepted before attempting to publish. This can be done by either creating a new category or copying a similar book. The ID is used to identify the organization or publisher who created the ISBN. It is always good practice to use this code so people know who put out your digital work. The title section is made up of 15 characters and includes everything from your author name to the book’s title and subtitle.
ASIN Codes
ASIN numbers are ten digits in length. On the first line of the number, you will find one set of digits that appears over and over again throughout the ASIN number. These are known as check digits. Amazon checks these codes to ensure they match your account number, which is stored as a 10-digit value. In addition, there will be five other digits (known as non-check digits) that randomly appears on the second line of the number. The purpose of these non-check digits is unknown, but it’s possible that they have a connection to ISBNs.
The last four characters (or groups) are known as product code or product identifier (PID). This portion of the ASIN actually identifies each book you publish. It also determines what products you can create for your account and which books you can export. These last four characters are not a part of the ASIN number itself, but are used to uniquely identify each book and improve customer search capabilities.
How to Find ASIN on Amazon
The tool that makes it easy to find your ASIN number is located in your Seller Central dashboard. Next, you will be taken to the “My Store” page; here, you can see all of your books by navigating from left-to-right or top-to-bottom. From here, click on “Your Books”.
