Tell us a little bit about yourself, your hobbies and interests.

I'm an author, poet, lawyer, mother, and entrepreneur—roles that keep life exciting and endlessly creative! Known as 'A Busy Lady' to my loyal Substack followers, I’m a proud first-generation college graduate from New England with a deep love for storytelling. I write speculative fiction mysteries, heartfelt poetry, and creative nonfiction. I'm also always seeking to push boundaries to try new genres and connect with readers. For me, every day is an opportunity to embrace creativity and go after your dreams.

When and why did you start writing books?

I’ve been writing my entire life. As a kid, I fell in love with books and quickly started writing my own stories, poems, and even songs. It was my way of exploring my imagination and creating worlds of my own. As I grew older, I decided to hone my craft by studying writing for several years through the UCLA Writers Program and under the mentorship of author and screenwriter John Truby. I’ve also taken various college courses and participated in writing groups, each experience deepening my understanding of storytelling. Writing has always been a constant in my life—a passion that has grown with me.

What made you decide to tackle writing as a career?

I've always wanted to share stories with the world. I believe stories are where we find ourselves - our courage and our faith. It's where we can make sense of the world, connect with one another, learn about diverse life experiences and then take those adventures/knowledge with us as we embark in everyday life. I began publishing my work because its one sided to write and never share it with others. It's when we share our work that the real magic begins.

Which one of your books or characters is your favourite?

Right now I am super proud of my novel, All These Threads of Time. It was a hard novel to plot between the mystery and the time travel elements. I'm really happy with how it turned out. I love all of the characters in the book but I do have a soft spot for Sylvie's little brother, Sebastian. He's an old soul and such an important character to Sylvie's development in the story.

Which one of your books was the hardest to write and stretched you the most as a writer?

Each book has its own obstacles. I'd have to say whichever novel I'm working on at the moment is always the hardest because if its what I'm working on now, I'm in the thick of it trying to crack the story.

Who is your favourite author and book?

I have so many! It would be impossible to list them all here. I do really enjoy Matt Haig's books. I love historic writers as well- Nathaniel Hawthorne, Herman Melville, Louisa May Alcott. My Goodreads page lists many of my favorites.

What book are you reading right now?

I just finished reading What You Are Looking For Is In The Library by Michiko Aoyama. It was such an inspirational read. I highly recommend it!

Where do you get your inspiration for your books?

To be honest, I don't know! I read a lot. I research things. I jot down various ideas. Sometimes they are whole ideas, sometimes they are half ideas. Eventually these ideas and thoughts work up to a premise for a story. Each book is different, but usually, the main idea comes from a character that comes to mind or a theme I want to express.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

I love going to the beach, walking in nature, spending time with my family and pets. I'm always up for a good movie!

Do you have any new books in the works?

Yes. I'm currently working on a new thriller about fame, secrets and conspiracies . . . It's been a challenge to write but it's getting there. I expect to publish it in 2025. You can learn more at my website, https://sarahcrownebooks.com
