I've always been a writer, even as a young child. When I was in elementary school, I wrote my first book. My Ten Stories was a collection of short, magical-themed tales only a nine-year-old could imagine. Handwritten on lined notebook paper and bound between two decoupaged pieces of tagboard, it was my treasure. I held onto it for many years, but it disappeared somewhere in one of our many moves. I would love to have it now, to see where it all began.

I was born in North Carolina, on top of a mountain in the middle of nowhere, before my parents moved me to Annapolis, Maryland. There I learned to love the water and anything related to it: boating, swimming, chasing shells on the Atlantic Coast. Later, we moved to the Gulf Coast of Florida and I spent every free moment on the beach. Bonita Beach, Boca Grande, and Sanibel Island were my playgrounds. There is something so relaxing about the sound of the waves and the feel of sand between your toes.

Today, I live in the northwest corner of Tennessee where my husband and I will spend our retirement. There isn't any beach around here. That makes me sad, so I try to travel to the Gulf Coast as much as I can. I will always be a Florida girl at heart.

I believe a lot of my personality shows up in my characters, from insecure Kara to smart mouthed Granny. I hope you fall in love with them the way I have.
