In this book, we discuss phishing via phone or vishing. According to 2024 data, 97% of Americans own a phone, and AARP suggests that between 86% and 62% of seniors use smartphones. This large group of phone users is a target for phishing attempts and attracts malicious actors who specifically attack phone users, particularly seniors, using various scams. The IC3 2022 report reveals an 84% surge in senior fraud losses, highlighting the growing threat. While scammers use different methods to attack, including sending text messages with links, utilizing voice cloning, and more, this book will focus on phone calls. We will present examples of attack techniques to help readers familiarize themselves with the methods scammers use, thereby enhancing their ability to recognize such threats.
