Shots of Indifference: The Story

Emerald Valley, Nevada is officially put on the map.

16-year-old Michaela Knapp’s prom night becomes an instant international story for an incident that is all too common. Her boyfriend Kelvin Ifill, a 16-year-old black boy, is shot by a white cop during a traffic stop. But Kelvin is unlike all of the other disadvantaged black boys that end up in these situations. He happens to be from a prominent family of great wealth—billionaire wealth—and his family is determined to not let the cop who shot their son get away with what he did.

The cop, Stu Kwiatkowski, is put in more of a difficult situation than ever since his wife is black, as well as having biracial kids, and he doesn’t know if she’s going to support him through this along with her side of the family. To make matters worse for Michaela, who is biracial with a black mom and a white dad, she gets a very unexpected surprise when she finds out that her dad was once best friends with Stu. This revelation nearly divides her family since she wants both of her parents to support Kelvin and his family, but this is easier said than done especially when it comes to her dad.

But Michaela knows that there is way more to the story about Kelvin being shot but doesn’t want to tell what she knows for only reasons that she knows, and she really struggles with this, but knows that the whole story will have to be told whether she wants to tell it or not. Meanwhile, Stu also struggles with what he’s done and is not exactly telling the whole story. He’s also still struggling with an incident that happened almost 30 years ago and feels that there’s definitely a connection to this current one.

Whose story is believable will depend on who people want to believe or who they think they should believe, but there’s one person who may or may not be able to tell their version of the story at all.
