ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Dan Washburn

My best friend and I did experiments with hypnosis while we were in high school, which gave me a great respect for the power of hypnosis to alter consciousness. At Harvard I studied psychology. I had a course there on the “Psychology of Motivation” under Richard Alpert, who later became the spiritual teacher Ram Dass after his time in India. At Brandeis I developed interests in humanistic and transpersonal psychology under Abe Maslow. A severe illness in my early thirties caused me to reexamine the New Testament, searching for its true meaning. Since then, I have spent a great deal of my time studying research on the historical Jesus, trying to understand who he was and the content of his message. I have also searched for meaning in Taoism, Sufism, Hinduism, and Buddhism. Along the way I have had a number of spiritual experiences. These have led me to study scientifically sound ways to reach spiritual bliss states. I have also invented several techniques of my own, powerful methods that can quickly induce spiritual states. Using my own experiences and my study of mysticism, I have been trying to re-examine Christianity to see how we can actually do what Jesus taught us to do. I have been learning how to swim in the ocean of love.
