ABOUT THE AUTHOR

I am an author and RSPCA Inspector from Norfolk. I have a degree in English Literature and Linguistics from York University and have been investigating animal cruelty and neglect and rescuing sick and injured animals for almost 20 years. In my day job, I deal with very difficult and often emotional situations and meet all sorts of people from all sorts of backgrounds. My career provides some of the inspiration for my fictional work. I live in an old cottage in the country. I have a husband, 5 children, 2 dogs, a cat, 2 giant African land snails and currently one rescued hen who thinks she is a dog, so finding time to write can be a challenge. I am happiest outdoors, growing fruit and vegetables in the garden, walking the dogs and family holidays usually involve walking up mountains in summer, skiing down them in winter and sleeping in a tent whenever possible. I love spending time with my large, noisy, chaotic family, cooking meals for friends and playing board games. I always have at least one book on the go and have always dreamed of writing my own novel. I now dream of writing more. The Essence of Bliss is my debut novel.

When and why did you start writing books?

The Essence of Bliss is my debut novel. It has taken 5 years from the moment I sat down to begin my story in 2019 until now, when it is finally out. I have a very busy life so finding time to write can be difficult but it has always been something that I wanted to do.

What made you decide to tackle writing as a career?

I have always wanted to write. I am an avid reader and have found myself becoming increasing inspired to attempt to move people in the way that I am moved when reading a really good book.

Which one of your books or characters is your favourite?

The Essence of Bliss is my debut novel and I am super proud to have it out in the world. I am rather attached to all of the characters but I really love Josh, the little boy who is having a difficult time at home and who is brave and loving despite all of the challenges he has had to face.

Which one of your books was the hardest to write and stretched you the most as a writer?

Writing The Essence of Bliss has been a huge challenge. I feel that I grew as a writer as it took shape and I hope to continue to develop and refine my style as I continue to produce more and more.

Who is your favourite author and book?

Without doubt, Diana Gabaldon and the Outlander series. I picked up Cross Stitch when I was 16 and am still totally in love with the all of the characters and the world that Diana has crafted and continues to craft so beautifully.

What book are you reading right now?

Go Tell The Bees That I am Gone, Diana Gabaldon

Where do you get your inspiration for your books?

Everywhere! I do most of my thinking and planning on long dogs walks but inspiration for themes and characters come from every corner of my life and my dreams.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

I love being a mum, looking after my family, walking, reading, pottering in the garden and playing board games.

Do you have any new books in the works?

The Essence of Insanity, sequel to The Essence of Bliss, is well under way. I am desperately hoping to have it completed in 2025.
