ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Haley Rhoades’s writing is another bucket-list item coming to fruition, just like meeting Stephen Tyler, Ozzie Smith, and skydiving. As she continues to write contemporary romance, she also writes sweet romance and young adult books under the name Brooklyn Bailey, as well as children’s books under the name Gretchen Stephens. Haley’s under five-foot, fun-size stature houses a full-size attitude. Her uber-competitiveness in all things entertains, frustrates, and challenges family and friends. Haley’s guilty pleasures are Lifetime and Hallmark movies. Her other loves include all things peanut butter, Star Wars, mathematics, and travel. Past day jobs vary tremendously from an elementary special-education para-professional, to a YMCA sports director, to a retail store accounting department, and finally a high school mathematics teacher. Haley resides with her husband and fur-baby in the Des Moines area. This Missouri-born girl enjoys the diversity the Midwest offers. Reach out on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or her website…she would love to connect with her readers.

Tell us a little bit about yourself, your hobbies and interests.

Well I am small but mighty. A mother, wife, KC Chiefs maniac, and newly anointed GiGi (grandma). My 2 sons are both grown, but my fur-baby Nala is still at home and keeps us entertained. I love to golf, read, and hang out with family and friends in my spare time. Something unexpected is Heavy Metal music is my jam and sometimes might crank it. a bit too loud as I bounce around the house.

When and why did you start writing books?

I started writing secretly and by that I mean when my husband fell asleep at night I would write for awhile then hide it under the bed . I actually began writing to help clear my head of everything running around in my mind.. I never thought this would continue, my hope was that 1 person outside my family would buy my book and like it.

What made you decide to tackle writing as a career?

I am teacher by education, actually a math teacher, but i've always loved to write. My high school english teacher was the first that told me to look at publishing. When my husband was transferred states for his job, that's when we decided to just give it a try and make this work.

Which one of your books or characters is your favourite?

I think my newest series is my favorite, actually Ladies of the Links #2 to be specific. You don't have to like golf to like the book, it's really more about the relationships of the ladies and the neighbors on the course. It's a bit of.a Desperate Housewives meet Gossip girl novel. It's a lot more comedy than I actually expected to put in the book, but when I reflect on how I play golf (which is pretty hilarious) it just ended up that way.

Which one of your books was the hardest to write and stretched you the most as a writer?

Unleashed, my 4th book in the 7 Deadly Sins. I put a lot more real-to-life drama in the book and my main character is much closer to my age. I always find it difficult writing characters my own age for some reason.

Who is your favourite author and book?

Rock Chick by Kristen Ashley She is also my favorite author. I will say HM Ward had a big impact on my career especially early on when I was just getting started.

What book are you reading right now?

Beautiful Thorns by Jaymin eve and Tate James

Where do you get your inspiration for your books?

Inspiration comes from all the books I read and audio books I listen to, especially those that are infused with real life situations. I keep a note pad by the bed though as I will often wake up with a new idea for a book.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

Spending time with my grandson, Attending KC chiefs games, road tripping with my husband to book shows, and snuggling with my Pomskey (Nala) she may be a tad bit spoiled.

Do you have any new books in the works?

I actually have several. 3 in current series and have started a new series that will intertwine characters from other series. This is one way that I avoid writers block. I have a great plotting software and lots of notepads around, but if I get stuck on one I move to the next so I'll usually have 3 or more going at once, probably seems crazy but works for me.
