IVAN FIGUEROA0-OTERO, M.D. FACS, FAAMA

78 year-old former academic pediatric surgeon that after retiring at 61 years from an active surgical practice decided to look forward to new challenges based on his extensive experience in oriental eastern philosophies and training in Chinese style medical acupuncture. He then embarked in a very successful integrative holistic medical practice that led him to be recognized as Holistic Physician of the year in 2011 and a very active TV presence in the field of alternative medicine. He then rounded out his goals by initiating a writing career in his favorite genre, nonsectarian spirituality and self-healing at 70 years, that at present has allowed him to publish the School of life trilogy, Spirituality 101, Spirituality 1.2, Spirituality 103 and his most recent one Spirituality 104 a transition to his new 200 trilogy of spirituality books

All these books have been received significant acclaim such as Benjamin Franklin Award, NIEA Award, Readers Favorite, Beverly Hills Award, and USA Best Book Awards.

Tell us a little bit about yourself, your hobbies and interests.

79 young retired Academic Pediatric Surgeon, who at 61 years decided to restart a new perspective on healing by using alternative medical therapies, such as traditional Chinese acupuncture and lifestyle modifications, directing the healing or recovery process on the patient and not the therapist.

When and why did you start writing books?

I wanted to share my learning experiences in my School of life to give hope and support to others in the problematic tests we all experience in this complex living curriculum.

What made you decide to tackle writing as a career?

I decided to challenge myself to share all that I had learned so that I could extend my reach to others.

Which one of your books was the hardest to write and stretched you the most as a writer?

The upcoming book, Spirituality 202 Healing the Cancer in Our Genes, is part of my postgraduate series, which I have been polishing for about two years. Where do you get your inspiration for your books?

From the good, the bad and the ugly experiences of all the stages of my life, from relatives, teachers, friends, patients, religious books and my own heart.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

I don't have spare time at 8o years young.
