ABOUT THE AUTHOR

I’d like to take the time to introduce myself. My name is Jessica but as you can see, I write under the pen name J.D. Southwell. I was born and raised in DFW, TX and I’ve always enjoyed reading ever since I was a little girl. Unlike most kids growing up, I spent the majority of my time at my local library. I eventually found my love of Romance and Mystery books. I started writing my own stories when I realized what I wanted to read hadn’t been written yet. I started my self-publishing journey writing children’s books. (Amelia and Andrew Learn to Pray, Love One Another, and Don’t Be Afraid, Grace) Once I got the hang of self-publishing, I wrote and published my first book, Dating is Ghetto: an erotic anthology novella. After a year, I started to outline 40hrs With A Stranger. And here we are today! I plan on writing more and hope that you sign up for my newsletter for my next project, Their Best Friends. (Book 2 of this series, Its A Vibe) If you’ve enjoyed this story, please leave me a review and share this story with a friend. Feel free to follow me on Instagram and/or Tiktok 😊 www.jbookcollections.com email: jd.southwell@outlook.com Instagram: @jdsouthwells Tiktok: @jdsouthwell

Tell us a little bit about yourself, your hobbies and interests.

My hobbies are reading, listening to music (specifically 80s rock, 90s rnb, and pop), watching movies, or binge watching The Office or Abbott Elementary.

When and why did you start writing books?

I started writing in my early twenties but didn't take it seriously (nor did I finish a manuscript). I became serious in my writing in late 2022 and started writing children's books. Once I was ready, I moved on to writing adult fiction.

What made you decide to tackle writing as a career?

I found myself wanting to read about certain experiences or daydreaming about the "what ifs" in life. Then one day i started writing down scenarios and the next thing I knew, I had an outline ready.

Which one of your books or characters is your favourite?

My favorite character would have to be Denice or Grandpa in my current book, 40hrs With A Stranger. They were so fun to write and I found myself laughing at their sharp wit.

Which one of your books was the hardest to write and stretched you the most as a writer?

My first book was my hardest because I wanted every little thing to go right with it. It took my months to get the first draft done because I kept rereading and editing as I went instead of just getting all of my ideas down first.

Who is your favourite author and book?

My favorite book would have to be The Ghost of Fossil Glen (oldie but goodie). I remember my 5th grade teacher reading a chapter a day after recess and I was hooked. This definitely was my "aha" moment to realize how much I enjoyed books. hard to say

What book are you reading right now?

I am currently reading The Merciless Ones by Namina Forna

Where do you get your inspiration for your books?

I got my inspiration from my past life experiences or my husband's experiences. We've both been through some crazy rides.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

I enjoy writing or listening to books on audible.

Do you have any new books in the works?

Yes. I have Book 2 of my series It's A Vibe as well as a Mystery "Who Done It" suspense.
