Jiffy Kate is the joint pen name for Jiff Simpson and Jenny Kate Altman. They're co-writing besties who share a brain. They also share a love of cute boys, stiff drinks, and fun times. Their first published book, Finding Focus, was released in November 2015. Since then, they've continued to write what they know--southern settings full of swoony heroes and strong heroines. Tell us a little bit about yourself, your hobbies and interests.

Our hearts reside in New Orleans. Our motto is coffee before five, vodka after. The things we like to do most together are traveling, concerts, and book signings. We also love everything Twilight, Disney, and Schitt's Creek.

When and why did you start writing books?

We got our start in fanfiction almost ten years ago. (WHAT?!?!) Our first story was a Twilight fan fiction titled Southern Comfort. After that, we continued to write in that genre for about four years. When we decided to try our hand at publishing, Southern Comfort was where we started again. We re-wrote it approximately four times. It went through every writer's Bootcamp and workshop with us and then it finally became Finding Focus, our first published novel that was released on November 30th, 2015!

What made you decide to tackle writing as a career?

Writing is something we've both always loved and it felt natural to continue along the journey to see where it takes us.

Which one of your books or characters is your favourite?

That's like picking a favorite child. We'll always have a soft spot for Finding Focus. It was our firstborn. But we also love Watch and See and Come Again. Those books brought out all the emotions in us and helped us push our boundaries as writers. Coincidentally, Shaw O'Sullivan and Luke Walker are our two broodiest characters, and we both really love broody, moody, heroes.

Which one of your books was the hardest to write and stretched you the most as a writer?

See above for the books that stretched us the most. But our hardest book to write was Chasing Castles. It was our sophomore book, so to speak. And we're not sure if it was us still finding our footing or the pressure of writing something that lived up to our first book, but IT WAS SO HARD! Our editor sent it back to us for major re-writes twice. We felt like giving up so many times while writing that book, but we persevered and we're so happy we did. It's now a book we look back on fondly and feel really proud of.

Who is your favourite author and book?

SO MANY! We were readers first and we still are ravenous readers. But the easiest answer is Twilight and Stephenie Meyer. If it hadn't been for her dream, we never would've realized ours.

What book are you reading right now?

Nothing at the moment because we're back in the writing cave while we try to finish up a secret project.

Where do you get your inspiration for your books?

EVERYWHERE! On the street, in the books we read and the music we listen to... movies, you name it!

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

Reading, of course, and re-watching Schitt's Creek. LOL.

Do you have any new books in the works?

We have a new book coming out on February 16th! Eye Candy is our third book in the Fighting For Love series w/ Smartypants Romance and we're so excited for readers to get it in their hands!!
