Tell us a little bit about yourself, your hobbies and interests.

When I'm not writing or playing the piano, I'm riding. I've been a three-day event rider for all of my adult life.

When and why did you start writing books?

I started writing poems when I was 17 and never looked back. It became something I just did. Writing defines me. As do horses. They are very different pursuits, one of the body and one of the mind, but somehow they go together well for me.

What made you decide to tackle writing as a career?

It chose me, I didn't choose it.

Which one of your books or characters is your favourite?

Daughter Days

Which one of your books was the hardest to write and stretched you the most as a writer?

The Art of Falling

Who is your favourite author and book?

To Paradise by Hanya Yanagihara

The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett

Where do you get your inspiration for your books?

The everyday world around me

Riding horses; playing the piano

Yes, I have a new manuscript, "Under This Dark Sycamore."
