Tell us a little bit about yourself, your hobbies and interests.

I studied Russian and comparative literature and work as a freelance editor for university presses. I love fairy tales and humorous fantasies, such as the works of Terry Pratchett, Diana Wynne Jones, Tom Holt, and A. Lee Martinez. I love British humor, including classics like P. G. Wodehouse.

When and why did you start writing books?

I started writing a Regency when I was twelve. I got back to writing fiction many years later

What made you decide to tackle writing as a career?

I love writing and reading and having a voice, especially in comedy.

Which one of your books or characters is your favourite?

My version of the classic Russian witch Baba Yaga in my current contemporary humorous fantasy series, the Baba Yaga Chronicles.

Which one of your books was the hardest to write and stretched you the most as a writer?

HEXED IN TEXAS as part of a series with more complicated plot and characters.

Who is your favourite author and book?

Many, but I love Terry Pratchett’s Tiffany Aching Series. Also the Oz books, especially the ones with Ruggedo.

What book are you reading right now?

Rereading the Diana Wynne Jones Chrestomanci series.

Where do you get your inspiration for your books?

Reading: fairy tales, mysteries, humor.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

Cooking, long walks, watching sports.

Do you have any new books in the works?

Yes, books 2 and 3 of the Baba Yaga Chronicles.
