ABOUT THE AUTHOR

I grew up in western North Carolina. I attended the University of Georgia and Vanderbilt University. I have a post-graduate degree in history, and I taught public school history for 35 years. I have been a lifelong student and researcher of the American Civil War. I enjoy writing about the struggle of poor working and farming people in the South, and I've done extensive research on the labor movement in the 1920s in the North Carolina textile industry, especially the infamous Marion Strike of 1929. I also take pleasure in writing about The Civil War, and I am currently developing a book of narrative poems on key Civil War battles, emphasizing primary sources, especially letters, diaries, and newspaper accounts.
