After surviving a brain aneurysm that left her with short-term memory problems, Bethany is happy to simply get through each day without forgetting to pack her daughter a lunch. She’s been a single mom since Ruby was born, and that’s the way she likes it. She’s found family in the large group of friends who have welcomed her in Hope Springs, and she doesn’t need a special someone. Especially not one as grumpy as James.

James already had a family once—and lost everything. So when he goes to Hope Springs to visit his sister, he has no interest in letting her play matchmaker. Even if her beautiful—though forgetful—friend Bethany intrigues him. But Bethany has a daughter—and even if James were willing to risk his heart on a woman again, he would never risk it on another child.

Between his sister’s schemes and her daughter’s needs, it seems James and Bethany just can’t avoid each other. And the more time they spend together, the more they both start to long for more. But when a tragedy looms, they have to decide if love is worth the risk—or if they’d be better off forgetting they’d ever met.
