Three Tooth Confederate

A Rifle, a War, and Only Three Teeth Left to Tell the Tale. Seventeen-year-old Horace Lanham only meant to visit family and help with the hay. Instead, he’s swept into the blood-soaked chaos of the Civil War—armed with an Enfield rifle, bound by loyalty, and cursed with the nickname “Three-Tooth Confederate” after a freak accident leaves him toothless in the snow. Told through Horace’s raw, intimate voice, Three Tooth Confederate is a deeply personal account of camaraderie, survival, and the loss of innocence amid one of America’s darkest chapters. From the muddy trenches of Philippi to the fiery siege at Fort Donelson, Horace’s journey reveals not only the horrors of war, but the grit, humor, and humanity buried beneath it. Whether he’s dodging cannon fire, dreaming of the girl back home, or burying brothers-in-arms, Horace’s story is as unflinchingly honest as it is unforgettable. With vivid historical detail, rich Southern atmosphere, and a narrator you won’t forget, this coming-of-age war memoir delivers a perspective rarely explored—and impossible to ignore.
