About this book

FINAL CHANCE

The not-so-distant future: (2068)

The climate-change tipping point has been breached faster than expected. Seas are rising and are more acidic, greatly affecting the health of our oceans and dramatically reducing our seafood supply. Temperatures are rising along with humidity, creating a deadly combination of environmental conditions and rapidly increasing deaths. Outbreaks of diseases resulting from glacier melt anthrax, mosquitos, and ticks. Agriculture and our entire food chains are breaking down as rising CO2 levels affect plant nutrition and animal stocks. Crops are failing as they struggle to survive in new environments and more frequent and intense weather patterns.

Fortunately, a progressive government had been elected as the large majority of Americans finally realized that climate change was real and needed to be urgently addressed; that the massive disparity in income and wages was unsustainable, and that working together with our here-to-fore enemies carried with it a huge peace dividend. As a result, the United States had been able to fund huge doming projects to look at fending off the effects of global warming and developing a stopgap or fallback position – the FINAL CHANCE – in case those efforts would not be enough to sustain life.

The vast doming efforts were led by the United States, using its resources, expertise, and technology to get it done. Over a thousand U.S. teams are working around the world to help other countries and cities survive if, for no other reason, we all live on the planet earth, and in a very real way, we’re all in it together. So why is someone trying to sabotage these efforts?
