A Purple Haze (Cubbyhole Kid)

The author’s true story written as a novel is set 1978 in a year of high inflation, high taxes and gas prices, (sound familiar). After the loss of his mother at thirteen and living alone with his abusive father and mentally challenged brother. Paxton gets his first, but used car called, the Bird. It’s a classic beauty, fast, but unfortunately sucks a lot of gas. One day after his father takes away his only gas card, Paxton is stuck unable to drive to high school or basketball practice as an important member of his high school basketball team.

Now needing money and fast, he agrees to do a favor for his older friend August, a local marijuana supplier, and deliver a package to an unknown location. The envelope full of cash is payment to a lucrative, but secretive marijuana grower named Ink. Paxton is unaware of this. This event will change Paxton’s life. Unbeknownst to Paxton, this grower and his friend August have plans for Paxton.

This is when Paxton is forced to make a fateful life-changing decision to get involved with this grower and his somewhat violent group. Paxton will spend his remaining high school and first two college years looking over his shoulder while supplying his community under the watchful eye of local law-enforcement, school faculty, and his alcoholic widower father.
