ABOUT THE AUTHOR

C.D. Britt began her writing journey when her husband told her she needed to use her excessive imagination to write stories as opposed to creating a daily narrative for him. Ever since she penned her first words, life has been a lot more peaceful for him. She currently resides in Texas where she has yet to adapt to the heat. Her husband thrives in it, so unfortunately, they will not be relocating to colder climates anytime soon. Their two young children would honestly complain either way. When she is not in her writing cave (hiding from the sun), she enjoys ignoring the world as much as her children will allow with a good book, music, and vast amounts of coffee (until it’s time for wine).

Tell us a little bit about yourself, your hobbies and interests.

Hello! My name is Crystal and I write under the pen name C.D. Britt. I am an avid reader as much as I am a writer. I love anything fantasy and sci-fi, but my favorite subgenres are UF, Dystopian, and Romantasy.

When and why did you start writing books?

I started writing in 2021 when I was going through some losses in my family. I'd always been into mythology, and it became a comfort to draft little stories about the Greek Underworld until I had an actual book. My husband pushed me to publish it and that was the beginning!

What made you decide to tackle writing as a career?

Writing has been such an amazing emotional outlet for me, but when people read my work and reached out to me about how it touched them, or helped them through something, I decided it was the path I needed to take. No matter what the end result is, I had to try this, and I have loved every day of it since!

Which one of your books or characters is your favourite?

I relate the most to Hera from Storms and Embers. Her trauma and healing is very closely aligned with my experience (aside from all the goddesses and magic, I have yet to manage that!) Thanatos and West are my comfort characters, and they are both from my Reign of Goddesses series.

Which one of your books was the hardest to write and stretched you the most as a writer?

Storms and Embers was rough, pulling some of my trauma into it, but Prophecy of Gods and Crows took me through the wringer. That one exhausted me emotionally, and I had to take a break after writing it. Book two is next up, so I am trying to get my mind in the right place for it.

Who is your favourite author and book?

I have so many favorites! Ugh. I guess I will go with my comfort read, Emperor's Edge by Lindsay Buroker.

What book are you reading right now?

Vengeful by V.E. Schwab.

Where do you get your inspiration for your books?

Mythology is a huge inspiration, but I like to reimagine and not retell, so I will usually make a playlist of the tone I want, and just free write from there.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

I love to read, to write, to camp with my family, and spend time with my little ones. I do enjoy the occasional girls' night in, but we have little kids, so it is rare that it happens.

Do you have any new books in the works?

I just finished a prequel to Shadows and Vines. My first in the Reign of Goddesses spin-off series is almost ready for editing, and then I will start on the second book in the Clan of Shadows series.
