ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Chisara Okehi, who was born to a Nigerian father and an American mother, is an accomplished professional social worker with years of experience in the healing and mental health profession. Having been through severe physical, sexual, and emotional abuse and experiencing her own mental health issues related to her childhood trauma while she was a young child, she has identified common themes related to trauma (and stigma) faced by people with mental illness.

Family dysfunction led to a career as a Child Protection Investigator, advocating protection, love, and compassion for abused and neglected children. She advocated for people living with mental illness, worked to de-stigmatization the dysfunction, and provided treatment so people can heal. Her professional education, advocacy expertise, and interest in helping people with a history of mental illness, childhood trauma, sexual abuse, and domestic violence make her stand out amongst her peers.

With a Master’s degree in Social Work from Walden University, Chisara continues discussions about thought-provoking topics on childhood trauma, stigmatization, mental health, grief, sexual abuse, and domestic violence. She loves working with children, teens, women, couples, and families. Coupled with her educational background in social work, she is a licensed Associate Clinical Social Worker through the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.

Chisara believes no one should be stigmatized for having mental illness and society should provide treatment so they can live more fulfilled and spare their loved ones from pain. Currently, she lives in California with her family.
