ABOUT THE AUTHOR

SD Schue is an adventurous soul who grew up in the Arizona desert riding horses and motorcycles; she has never found a compelling reason to leave. With a love of the hot, dry climate, beautiful mountains, and glorious sunsets, she is content in her surroundings. She has a deep passion for books and loves classics like Lord of the Rings, Chronicles of Narnia, and Dune, as well as popular science fiction and fantasy novels. She has been known to include murder mysteries, suspense, and romance for added variety in her library. This love of reading led to a desire to create characters and build a world that stretches the imagination but makes the reader ask, could that really happen?

Tell us a little bit about yourself, your hobbies and interests.

I am an Arizona girl and was raised riding horses and motorcycles in the Arizona desert. I am an avid fitness enthusiast and love new challenges. Reading is a passion and I always make it back to fantasy as my main source of content. But I've also gone through large numbers of other genres including murder mystery, thriller, espionage, and of course who doesn't love a good romance? I have two amazing adult children and a wonderful husband.

When and why did you start writing books?

I started writing as a means to deal with grief after losing a family member, some of the aspects of world-building were created because I wanted to talk to him again. Then once I got started I loved my characters and wanted to finish their story.

What made you decide to tackle writing as a career?

I've just gotten started down this path, but I have more stories in me and if people will keep reading, I'll keep writing!

Which one of your books or characters is your favourite?

I love Sophie, Digger (Scott), and Gia, but the addition of Seth in book two makes the story come alive and he's my favorite to write about. But all the characters have become important to me.

Which one of your books was the hardest to write and stretched you the most as a writer?

Book one of the Chosen Defender Series was the hardest to write because I didn't know what I was doing. Thank goodness for talented developmental editors and proofreaders. Books two and three were more challenging concerning world-building and character back story, but I got better with each one.

Who is your favourite author and book?

The entire Lord of the Rings trilogy by JRR Tolkien is easily my favorite.

What book are you reading right now?

I am reading indie author books in the same genre as mine to better understand how they go about putting their stories together and what works for them. I've enjoyed Leia Stone, Julie Hall, Barbara Hartzler, and Heather G Harris but keep looking for others.

Where do you get your inspiration for your books?

Some of what inspires me are other stories I've read. But I'm also inspired by science and the whole idea of spacetime and how matter and energy are related.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

I enjoy spending time with my family, listening to audiobooks while I go for long walks or bike rides, reading things that are of interest, and figuring out how to solve problems.

Do you have any new books in the works?

Yes! Two will release in the first half of 2024 and at least one more will follow.
