ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Adam David Collings is an author of speculative fiction. He lives in Tasmania, Australia with his wife Linda and his two children.  Adam draws inspiration for his stories from his over-active imagination, his life experiences and his faith.

Adam is a great lover of stories and is the host of the Nerd Heaven podcast where he discusses sci-fi and fantasy from TV, film, and books. You can also find these discussions on youTube.

Tell us a little bit about yourself, your hobbies and interests.

I'm a middle-aged nerd from Tasmania Australia. I love all things science fiction and fantasy. I podcast about Star Trek, Stargate and DC Superheroes at Nerd Heaven. I develop software for a consulting engineering company by day, and together with my wife and kids, I run a travel vlog channel on youTube called "The Collings Show"

When and why did you start writing books?

I've been writing stories to entertain myself since my early childhood and have never really stopped. I started my first attempt at a novel in my early twenties. Even then, it was still primarily for my own entertainment.

What made you decide to tackle writing as a career?

I think it was the advent of self-publishing and the ebook revolution that helped me realise that my writing could be more than just a hobby. Hearing stories from other authors on podcasts showed me that my writing career could coexist with my day job.

Which one of your books or characters is your favourite?

The first Jewel Of The Stars book is pretty special to me. I'm very proud of how it serves as a pilot, (hopefully) sucking reads into the world I've created.

Which one of your books was the hardest to write and stretched you the most as a writer?

The second Jewel of the Stars book was a bit of a slog to wrangle into shape in the editing process. The writing comes reasonably easily for me. The editing, not so much.

Who is your favourite author and book?

My all time favourite author is Brandon Sanderson. I love the way he creates epic fantasy with complex magic systems and a science fiction sensibility. Favourite book is harder because there are so many, but let's mention Words of Radience by Brandon Sanderson and Amish Vampires in Space by Kerry Neitz

What book are you reading right now?

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins (prequel to The Hunger Games)

Where do you get your inspiration for your books?

The short answer I usually give is that my ideas come from my imagination, my life experiences, and my faith.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

Taking my family on adventures around our beautiful state, and making vlogs about said adventures on "The Collings Show." I like to unwind with a little Skyrim or Mass Effect Trilogy on my trusty old Playstation 3, not a classic Sierra adventure game. Of course, reading is a given.

Do you have any new books in the works?

I'm waiting on feedback from my editor on Jewel of The Stars book 3. Then it's on to revisions of book 4. I'm also in the very preliminary stages of outlining a spin-off book set on Earth, which I will write during NaNoWriMo this November.
