Tell us a little bit about yourself, your hobbies and interests.

Hi, let me introduce myself. My name is Ghislain, i'm from Canada and I’m new to the world of writing. I’m a happy and positive person who loves life and is deeply connected to my family. I have a wonderful wife, two grown daughters whom I adore, and now, I am a proud grandfather to a little granddaughter who has inspired me to start writing children’s stories.

When and why did you start writing books?

When I sat down to write my first book, my granddaughter was the inspiration behind it. Although she’s only a year old yet, she has filled my life with indescribable joy and wonder. The idea of her growing up, discovering the world of imagination, and experiencing the beauty of stories motivated me to create this tale. While she may be too young to understand it now, I wrote it with the hope that one day, she will find joy in reading the story and connect with the lessons and values within it.

What made you decide to tackle writing as a career?

As a grandparent, I wanted to leave something timeless for my granddaughter—stories she could treasure as she grows. Writing these books was a way for me to pass on important values like kindness, empathy, and the belief that small actions can make a big difference. Though she may be too young to understand now, I wrote those stories for her, hoping that one day, when she reads it, she’ll find in them the same warmth and joy she brings to me. I want her to know that these stories, with all its heart and magic, was inspired by her—my little source of wonder.

Which one of your books or characters is your favourite?

I would have to say Max the Little squirrel since he's the first one i created.

Which one of your books was the hardest to write and stretched you the most as a writer?

I think i had the same challenge for all 3 books. Writing for children comes with unique challenges that require thoughtful consideration and creativity. One of the biggest challenges is striking the right balance between simplicity and depth. Children’s stories need to be accessible and easy to follow, but I also want my stories to have depth and convey meaningful lessons. Finding that sweet spot where a story is engaging and memorable, without being overly complicated, is always an interesting challenge. Another challenge is ensuring that the language and themes are age-appropriate. Children are naturally curious, and they can handle more complex emotions and ideas than we sometimes realize. Still, I need to introduce these ideas in a way that respects their age and perspective. For instance, if I want to touch on themes of friendship, empathy, or courage, I make sure the storyline explores these ideas in ways that children can grasp and relate to directly. Keeping a child’s attention is also a priority. Young readers can have short attention spans, so the story needs to be fast-paced with enough action, rhythm, and relatable moments to keep them engaged. This means that every word, line, and plot twist must be crafted carefully to keep them interested and moving through the pages. Finally, I feel the responsibility of making the stories both entertaining and meaningful, knowing that books can leave a lasting impression. The goal is to tell a story they’ll enjoy but also one they might reflect on, even if subtly, helping shape their perspectives and values as they grow. It’s a challenge I embrace, knowing that each book has the potential to make a positive impact in a young reader's life.

Who is your favourite author and book?

While i write children's book i love reading horror books and Stephen King is one of my favorite author. One of my favorite book from King under is other pen name (Richard Bachman) is "The long walk".

What book are you reading right now?

I've started reading the Mortal engine book series.

Where do you get your inspiration for your books?

Even at her young age, my granddaughter brings light and happiness wherever she goes. Her innocence and curiosity became the foundation for my stories. Kind heart and adventurous spirit are qualities I hope she will develop as she grows older. My characters embodies the innocence and joy we all have within us, and I wanted them to remind readers of the power of small acts of kindness. Showing how to help others reflects the everyday heroes we encounter, people who make the world a better place in small, often unnoticed ways.
