ABOUT THE AUTHOR

I am the author of the YA Supernatural series FORLORN and co-author with Priscilla Shirer of the bestselling middle-grade fantasy series, THE PRINCE WARRIORS. My non-fiction books include The Ultimate Bible Character Guide and The Ultimate Bible Character Devotional. I've also written novels for adults, including HAMMER OF GOD and AVALON, under the name Gina Miani.

I live in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, with my husband, my dog, several imaginary friends, and all of the characters from my books, even the dead ones. I am also the author of three beautiful daughters, for whom I share credit with my husband, Steve.

Tell us a little bit about yourself, your hobbies and interests.

Hi. I'm Gina. I'm technically a Jersey Girl, but I live in Pennsylvania now with my husband, my dog and all the characters from my books, even the dead ones. I'm great at making grilled cheese sandwiches. I'm obsessed with jigsaw puzzles and swords. My husband gives me a new sword every birthday. I also collect refrigerator magnets.

When and why did you start writing books?

I started writing my first novel in 1990 when we had moved to a small town with more cows than people and I didn't know what to do with my life. I was going to be a romance novelist because that seemed like a fun thing to do. Turns out it was harder than I thought it would be. That first novel took me twenty years to write.

What made you decide to tackle writing as a career?

When my kids got older, I asked myself, what am I going to do when I don't have to be a full-time mom anymore? It was either writing or working the drive thru at McDonalds, the only things I figured I was qualified for. I consider McDonalds my fall-back position, in case this writing thing doesn't work out.

Which one of your books or characters is your favourite?

Charles Martel from The Hammer of God. My first and still my favorite. A true hero.

Which one of your books was the hardest to write and stretched you the most as a writer?

The current one. Each book gets harder and harder, because as I writer I have to keep upping the ante.

Who is your favourite author and book?

Ayn Rand, The Fountainhead. If I had to chose one book that made me want to be a writer, it was that one.

What book are you reading right now?

The Wheel of Time series, which I am determined to finish before I die.

Where do you get your inspiration for your books?

From God, life and other books. The Forlorn series was inspired by the Bible, Twilight, and the Sandy Hook school shooting. Strange bedfellows, but that's how it goes.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

Walking, reading, traveling, eating.

Do you have any new books in the works?

I'm currently working on the fifth (and last, I hope!) book of the Forlorn series, which was originally going to be a trilogy. Since I don't plan these books out in advance, I never know until I get near to the end of the book if the story is over. Maybe I should be a better planner. But I like surprises.
