ABOUT THE AUTHOR

JEFF MOYER has been working in organic agriculture all his life. For over 30 years he was the farm manager/director for the Rodale Institute in Southeastern Pennsylvania where he managed the farm operations department and conducted his own research. For the past 5 years Moyer has been the Executive Director/Chief Operating Officer (CEO) overseeing strategic planning and growth of Rodale Institute.

Moyer has always been a proponent of improving soil health. Because of his conviction that organic farmers could benefit from reduced tillage, and conventional farmers could benefit from reduced pesticide applications, he has worked for 20 years designing equipment and techniques specifically for managing cover crops and improving no-till farming.

Moyer currently serves as board chair and founding member of the board of directors of the Regenerative Organic Alliance and sits on the board of directors of the Soil Health Institute. He has served as chair of the USDA’s National Organic Standards Board, which served to advise the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture on organic issues, is a founding member of Pennsylvania Certified Organic (PCO) and served as a founding member and board chair of The Seed Farm, a new farmer incubator farm. For many years Moyer managed Sky Hollow Farm where he and his family have lived for over 40 years. Here his family manages a replacement heifer operation for his son Orin’s certified organic crop and dairy farm.
