ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Originally from New Jersey, Julia moved to London in her early twenties. She worked as an advertising copywriter until discovering her love of photography on a 6-month trip around South America. She started a wedding photography business which received some great PR when her own Dirty Dancing-themed wedding dance went viral on YouTube. She appeared on Richard & Judy and The Oprah Winfrey Show, where she danced with Patrick Swayze. In 2009 she opened a luxury portrait studio and has photographed everyone from the Queen to Queen, the band. After 15 years as a photographer, she returned to her first love: writing. Tell us a little bit about yourself, your hobbies and interests.

I am a writer, photographer, runner, and mother of 2. Originally from New Jersey, I've not lived in the UK most of my life.

When and why did you start writing books?

I've always written, ever since I was a little girl. Every school project I got, I turned into an opportunity for a story. After many years of wanting to write a book, I finally started writing my first novel just before lockdown.

What made you decide to tackle writing as a career?

I've always wanted to do it. Now feels like the right time to pursue writing. After being a copywriter for a decade and then a professional photographer for 15 years, it was time to try something new.

Which one of your books or characters is your favourite?

Well, right now, I only have one, so SHOOTERS. I have so many favourite characters in it, including Claudia who is the sweary best friend and Liliwen, the wise older girlfriend.

Which one of your books was the hardest to write and stretched you the most as a writer?

The first one took me 3 years to get it right. Hopefully future projects will take less time!

Who is your favourite author and book?

I have so many. I have a podcast called Two Lit Chicks where we discuss the books that changed authors' lives.

What book are you reading right now?

I'm reading A Terrible Kindness because we are interviewing Jo Browning Wroe next on our podcast.

Where do you get your inspiration for your books?

I used to be a wedding photographer, so I felt it was a rich vein of inspiration for writing my first trilogy.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

Chilling out in front of the television, watching movies, drinking wine with my husband or playing family games.

Do you have any new books in the works?

I'm working on book 2 in the Photographers Trilogy, called F-STOP!
