ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Rich Nash was senior producer of Warner Bros’ and HBO’s Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return To Hogwarts, which wasn’t intentionally funny but was Emmy-nominated (it lost to Adele). His TV shows have featured Meg Ryan, Hugh Grant, Vic Reeves, Jimmy Carr, Joe Wilkinson, Josh Widdicombe, Ross Noble, Sean Lock, Jarvis Cocker, Katherine Ryan, Bill Bailey, Jonathan Ross, Seann Walsh, Stephen Merchant, Christopher Lloyd, Will Self, Irvine Welsh and Ron Howard. He lives in London, read English at King’s College, Cambridge, and has written three comedy novels featuring the world's worst life coach, Cuthbert Huntsman. How Not To Live Your Life is an antidote to self-help, Trigger Warning is an edge-of-the-pants SAS comedy, and Cop Lives Probably Matter is an outrageous take on crime fiction.

Tell us a little bit about yourself, your hobbies and interests.

I live in London and make TV shows. I was senior producer of the Harry Potter Reunion, which wasn't intentionally funny, but was Emmy-nominated. I make comedy programmes and documentaries for the BBC, Channel 4, Sky, Fox, Apple, and Discovery, and enjoy live comedy, films, pubs, and good books.

When and why did you start writing books?

I've been writing for more years than I can remember. I'm an avid reader, but I also lead a life crammed with ludicrous events, vivid characters and stupid decisions - writing gives me something to do with all my silly ideas.

What made you decide to tackle writing as a career?

To make nonsense of my life.

Which one of your books or characters is your favourite?

Cuthbert Huntsman, the world's worst life coach. He features in all four of my books and in almost a hundred videos on YouTube and TikTok. The imodern world is stuffed with useless gurus trying to con people out of cash, and Cuthbert is a satirical take on the most hopeless.

Which one of your books was the hardest to write and stretched you the most as a writer?

Cop Lives Probably Matter. Devising the world's most insultingly anti-police crime novel involved breaking every possible convention. I even had to employ an insensitivity reader to make sure it was suffieciently offensive.

Who is your favourite author and book?

I read anything by Ian Rankin, Mick Herron, and Christopher Brookmyre. So hard to choose a favourite book - maybe Don Quixote, The Count of Monte Cristo or The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy!

What book are you reading right now?

The Prophet and the Idiot by Jonas Jonasson

Where do you get your inspiration for your books?

They are darkly humorous takes on popular genres - crime, military thriller, and self-help, all seen through the twisted perspective of useless guru Cuthbert Huntsman. I love dreaming up terrible life coaching advice!

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

I'm a film buff, comedy addict, football fan, and terrible tennis player with an unhealthy love of London's pubs.

Do you have any new books in the works?

More Cuthbert Huntsman comedy novels will be appearing in 2024. After the cataclysmic failure of his life coaching career, Cuthbert becomes a criminally incompetent private eye, and stumbles upon a way of unleashing inter-galactic chaos across multiple dimensions.
