Tell us a little bit about yourself, your hobbies and interests.

I grew up in Arizona, but have planted some roots in South Australia. I'm fond of naps, crafting, Hellboy (the del Toro version), and have a weakness for good salsa.

When and why did you start writing books?

As a kid, so many (too many) of my daydreams became short stories. As far as Altrameda's story goes, she began as a Tempest Cleric in a Dungeons and Dragons campaign. When the campaign ended, I decided Altrameda needed a tale of her own.

What made you decide to tackle writing as a career?

Sometimes, characters and stories just won't get out of your head until they're written down.

Which one of your books or characters is your favourite?

The Tinkerer is probably my favourite character. Through adversity and tragedy, and with all of his flaws, he's come to be rather dear to the people around him - whether he can see that or not.

Which one of your books was the hardest to write and stretched you the most as a writer?

Having done mostly short stories, "The Stormforged" was certainly a long-term project. From beginning to end, it was about an eight-year process.

Who is your favourite author and book?

"Kitchen Confidential" by Anthony Bourdain, for sure, but "Storm Thief" by Chris Wooding was a favourite growing up.

What book are you reading right now?

A Court of Mist and Fury

Where do you get your inspiration for your books?

Inspiration strikes whenever and wherever it deigns to. I've a tendency to make mismatched notes to sift through.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

Right now? Mostly playing Baldur's Gate III.

Do you have any new books in the works?

Yes! The sequel to the Stormforged is well underway.
