ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Hello, I'm Alix Lee, a naturalised Taiwan citizen, originally from the UK. My main project at the moment is the True Tales of a Traveller series of true travel stories. This will cover 35 years when finally completed. This and other works are linked to from my personal website, alixlee.com, where there is also an excerpts page. You can also find introductory videos on YouTube, such as this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U7kND92UTTg My latest book is The Way of the Shoestring Outdoor Photographer, which is available on Amazon in either Kindle format or paperback.

Tell us a little bit about yourself, your hobbies and interests.

I was born British and after some years of travel ended up in Taiwan, and have been based here since.

When and why did you start writing books?

I began writing as a teenager, simply because I was interested in it as form of creative expression.

What made you decide to tackle writing as a career?

Looking back, I feel I have some stories that should be told. As a translator and former news editor, I've been involved in writing for many years (decades), so I think if I put my mind to it, I should be able to make a professional job of writing a few non-fiction books to tell my tales.

Which one of your books or characters is your favourite?

As characters, Richard in my story Culture Shock and Lenny in my story Solid Gold, Easy Action are probably my favourite characters because these were both real people and real characters in every sense of the word.

Which one of your books was the hardest to write and stretched you the most as a writer?

Overlanding, because this story came in two parts, so I had to be careful they could be read separately if desired.

Who is your favourite author and book?

As far as fiction is concerned, I like J.G.Ballard, but I like all his works equally. The same goes for Jack Kerouac, although that's not really fiction.

What book are you reading right now?

I never seem to stop reading my own books, looking for mistakes!

Where do you get your inspiration for your books?

At present, all my books and planned books are non-fiction, so I don't need to look for inspiration, just jog my memory. However, when I finally finish the present series, I would like to do some creative fiction writing.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

Mountain hiking, photography, travel

Do you have any new books in the works?

The True Tales of a Traveller series will keep me busy for at least several years yet...
