ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Dax is an award-winning author of revolutionary fantasy that focuses on trauma, healing, and leftist political advancement. After realizing their dream of being a curmudgeonly hedgewitch in the woods of Western Pennsylvania was not possible due to the construction of an outlet mall, Dax took up a new form of sorcery, where they whispered to rocks in arcane languages and taught them how to spy on you, colloquially known as software engineering. But this new career lead to an epic battle between the valiant forces of Ethics and all-powerful legion of Student Loan Payments, and Dax left that behind to join the magical order of word-placing. Today, they can be found waiting on the two god (ie: cat) who has allowed them to live in their abode and use their word-magic to make others cry. Dax studied political science and creative writing at Allegheny College in Pennsylvania and is a member of the the Kraken Collective. Tell us a little bit about yourself, your hobbies and interests.

I am a fantasy writer who enjoys playing video games, listening to Fleetwood Mac on repeat, and worldbuilding bizarre worlds.

When and why did you start writing books?

I wrote my first book when I was five about a teen pop band going into space to fight an oncoming alien invasion. I love telling stories and see my books as a means of advocating for the kind of world I want to live in.

What made you decide to tackle writing as a career?

My grandmother told me that if you do what you love, you will never work a day in your life. I love writing, and if I can make writing a career, I will spend every day doing what I love.

Which one of your books or characters is your favourite?

Of my own books, I have a soft spot for the feisty and temperamental Kegan Moore. But my favorite characters of all time is the not-at-all temperamental or feisty Howl, Sophie, and Calcifer of Howl's Moving Castle.

Which one of your books was the hardest to write and stretched you the most as a writer?

Whatever one I am currently writing! It's always my work-in-progress that feels like it is the hardest to write. Currently, that means Shackles and Secrets. It's incredibly difficult to write because I decided that the main character will have one of the same health conditions that I have. Writing a disability into a world where magical healing is possible is such a challenge. I don't want her disability waved away with the swoosh of a wand!

Who is your favourite author and book?

My favorite book is Howl's Moving Castle. My favorite author is Tamora Pierce.

What book are you reading right now?

The Shoreless River by JC Snow

Where do you get your inspiration for your books?

Daydreaming

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

I often play Square Enix's Critically-Acclaimed MMORPG, Final Fantasy XIV: Online.

Do you have any new books in the works?

I'm working on three right now! Shackles and Secrets, Crossroads of Fate, and The Last Page!
