ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Jessica James is an award-winning author of historical fiction, women's fiction and suspense/thrillers. She loves sharing her passion for history and travel on her blog Past Lane Travels.

Tell us a little bit about yourself, your hobbies and interests.

I live in Gettysburg, Pa., and write historical fiction -- mostly set during the Civil War era. I also write suspense/thrillers and women's fiction. My hobbies are traveling, horseback riding and cuddling with my new rescue dog Sophie.

When and why did you start writing books?

I finally realized that not everyone has characters and stories running through their head 24 hours a day and decided to start writing things down.

What made you decide to tackle writing as a career?

I have always been a writer. My first career was as a newspaper journalist, and I slowly gravitated to fiction writing.

Which one of your books or characters is your favourite?

That's a hard one! I don't think I can pick a favorite child.

Which one of your books was the hardest to write and stretched you the most as a writer?

Lacewood was both the hardest and easiest. It flowed fairly easily, but it is two full love stories from two different eras, so it was very complex and required a lot of handwritten notes to keep everything straight.

Who is your favourite author and book?

Northwest Passage by Kenneth Roberts.

What book are you reading right now?

Growing Up In The 1850s: The Journal of Agnes Lee

Where do you get your inspiration for your books?

Most of my inspiration comes from the heroes of America's past.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

I love to travel to do research and have discovered so many interesting tidbits about our nation's history that I have started a travel blog. I love sharing true stories about American history at https://www.pastlanetravels.com.

Do you have any new books in the works?

I'm working on a new suspense novel, but mostly concentrating on my travel blog.
