ABOUT THE AUTHOR

I live in Cornwall with my husband and student son. Before that we lived on the Isle of Mull in the Hebrides for fourteen years. I've been writing stories all my life and can usually be found with my nose in a book and a slice of cake beside me.

Tell us a little bit about yourself, your hobbies and interests.

I live in a little village in Cornwall and I love walking in the country and going to the beach. I read all the time and love to bake.

When and why did you start writing books?

I think I was about seven when I wrote my first 'book'. It was a story that featured all my dolls and teddies. I carried on writing stories all through my childhood. My father wrote books at that time, but unfortunately he never managed to get published.

What made you decide to tackle writing as a career?

It was all I ever really wanted to do. I knew that was what I wanted as a child, then got a bit distracted but eventually came back to it. I have so many stories in my head, I needed to write them down.

Which one of your books or characters is your favourite?

That's difficult, but I think my favourite of my books at the moment is The Girl in the Painting, and my favourite female character is Emily, and my favourite male is Andrew.

Which one of your books was the hardest to write and stretched you the most as a writer?

The Girl in the Painting required the most research because some of it takes place in Paris in the 1920s. That was great fun.

Who is your favourite author and book?

Daphne du Maurier is my favourite author, and although I love all her books, I think The King's General is my favourite closely followed by Frenchman's Creek.

What book are you reading right now?

King and Maxwell by David Baldacci

Where do you get your inspiration for your books?

Several of my books have sprung from just one little scene that pops into my head. The scene often doesn't even make it into the book, but it inspires the story.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

Reading, cooking, walking, watching movies, playing games (board games and computer)

Do you have any new books in the works?

Yes. I've just finished writing one that spans several generations, and am now writing a romantic comedy.
