Remember planking? Get ready for the literary world’s answer: Book Planking! This fun photo challenge is sweeping social media, and CraveBooks is excited to be part of it.
What is Book Planking?
It’s simple, but brilliant: showcase your favorite books in unique and unexpected places. It’s up to you! You can either:
- The Classic Plank: Lie face-down, book balanced perfectly on your back. Channel your inner yogi and show off both your flexibility and your literary taste.
- The Solo Book Star: Capture a stunning photo of your book alone, standing upright or laying flat in a creative setting. Let your chosen read take center stage, whether it’s perched on a mountaintop, balancing on a wrought iron chair (see below) or nestled amongst blooming flowers.
Book Planking Examples:
The Solo Book Star standard plank position. It’s a closed book, laying flat in a horizontal or relatively horizontal position.
The Solo Book Star – upright plank position. It’s a closed book, standing on it’s edge so that the spine and title are showing.

- Choose Your Book (or Books!): Grab that novel you can’t put down, the cookbook you swear by, or even the textbook that’s surprisingly fascinating.
- Find Your Perfect Spot: Think outside the bookshelf! A bustling city street, a tranquil forest path, or even your own quirky living room can all make for amazing Book Planking backgrounds.
- Get Creative with Your Shot: Angle, lighting, props – let your imagination run wild!
- Share the Love: Post your photo on social media with #BookPlanking and tag CraveBooks!
