Books to screen adaptations – whether we love them or hate them, we can’t help but be drawn to movies and TV shows based off of our favorite books. We’re almost always disappointed because our imaginations are unique, and nobody else is going to create exactly what we conjure in our mind while reading. We also have to accept the real-world limitations, such as budgets and available actors. The key to enjoying books to screen adaptations is going into it knowing and accepting that it’s going to be different, but it can still be good in its own right.
Here are some upcoming books to screen adaptations, on the big and little screens:
- “Nightbitch,” a horror based on the book Nightbitch: A Novel by Rachel Yoder, opens in theaters on Dec. 6, 2024.
- “It Ends With Us,” based on the wildly popular romance novel of the same name by Colleen Hoover, comes to the little screen, currently available to purchase on Amazon, or to stream on Netflix on Dec. 9, 2024.
- “Marked Men: Rule + Shaw,” based on the contemporary romance novel by Jay Crownover, comes to theaters on Jan. 22, 2025.

Also coming next year that’s already creating buzz in the book world:

- Fourth Wing, the phenomenally successful romantic fantasy by Rebecca Yarros, is being adapted into a TV show by Amazon Studios, although a release date has not been announced yet.
- Blood and Ash Series by Jennifer L. Armentrout is also coming to the small screen from Amazon Studios.
- Additionally, Armentrout is working with Panopticon Media to develop a reality TV series based in the world of fantasy storytelling, called “The Key.”
Books provide fabulous fodder for the big and little screens. We’re happy to see more books to screen adaptations getting the green light, because even if we don’t love them as much as the books, we’re still more excited to watch them than another version of the same movie that’s been remade every three years. What recent and upcoming books to screen releases are you looking forward to?
