ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Raised on a small farm, my youth was spent running away from angry bulls, riding horses, fishing, camping, and daydreaming about fantastic worlds. Born dyslexic, I have learned to use my neurodivergent mind for the good of mankind—creatures on other planets are another story. Although I'm not a fast reader or writer, my mind flies with many stories, eagerly waiting to be told. I'm better with numbers and art, so I decided to become an architectural designer long before it was cool to work from home. I have always enjoyed drawing, creating maps, laying out and designing buildings, and of course other worldly planets with amazing settings and diverse people. I live on a farm outside Eugene, Oregon, with my supportive husband, imaginative son, and our many two and four-legged animals. Want to know more, please visit www.kdlumsden.com

Tell us a little bit about yourself, your hobbies and interests.

I grew up on a farm. I have always loved the outdoors. Hiking, camping, fishing, horseback riding, chasing cows type of life.

When and why did you start writing books?

Words and me have a love hate relationship. I'm dyslexic so I have had much to tackle when it comes to reading and writing. I'm not fast at reading or writing (10+ years per project), but i can type 100 words a minute so when I can make it happen it's glorious!

What made you decide to tackle writing as a career?

I have always worn many hats in life writing is one of them. I decided to make a career out of it because my husband dared me to. He didn't want me to become an Emily Dickenson!

Which one of your books or characters is your favourite?

I cannot choose just one, although I do write characters that are pieces of my own soul. I am Bi/Poly and have explored my sexuality and true self through writing LGBTQ+ characters.

Which one of your books was the hardest to write and stretched you the most as a writer?

It's actually 2, but written as one giant series called The Green Eyed Tygeress / Gemini Blues. It is the story that inspired me to write all my other books. Although it's finished it's my first attempt at writing a series (2000+ pages/probably 1 million words but maybe more) it's still a rough draft that I've edited 10 times at least. I have decided that once I'm done with The Metalist's Journey series I will probably go back to that series and finish it. It's about a non-binary person who has a twin and a deceased brother (that they look much like and their dementia riddled mother keeps forgetting). Anish wishes for a better life, but that wish takes away the people Xi loves, trusting them into the arms of wicked Telepaths. Although Anish is powerful Xi's also easily swayed by telepathic tendencies. Will Xi be able to save Xir family before they all become indentured servants of Hakra?

Who is your favourite author and book?

Stranger in a strange land, Heinlein

What book are you reading right now?

The ocean at the end of the lane, Gaiman

Where do you get your inspiration for your books?

I have a farm and walk around the property many times a day. I also work several other jobs so that's when I daydream.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

Horseback riding. Hiking. Gardening.

Do you have any new books in the works?

Always. My brain can't stop inventing stories! There's one about cyclops. Another about a time traveler who messes things up. All my stories are intertwined in the same universe and some of my characters might make cameo's in other stories because why not!?
